Footprints in the Sand

Can you feel my life-lines
When I throw the rope
Cast myself aside
And strive to be consumed?
Would you be my love-life
And love life
If I give myself to the sea
And would you allow yourself
To be swept away with me?
Will you step off of the ledge
And stutter suspended in mid-air
Face to face with fairy floss clouds
And pink and blue racing stripes
Painted through the sky
And would you trust me to catch you
Before you fall
Into the devouring jaws of the whale
In between the rancid teeth
Of eternal sleep
And immortal travels down winding throats
And retched streets?
Can you hold my hand
In the night
And hold my body
When chills make me numb
And dreams cause my mind to-
Will you be my friend?
My will o’ the wisp when
The dead moon bites?
Could you shelter my soul
As my heart cries to embrace yours
And will you
Be mine
Until the days grow wizened
And the nights are born once again
And when there is nothing left but you
And me
And footprints in the sand.
